Built in 1948 by Budd in Lot #9673-017 as C&O 36 seat coach-8 seat smoker #1510, 1 of 12 such cars built in that Lot, which was ordered in July 1945, cars were delivered in June 1948 as #1500-#1511, with rear vestibules. In January 1946, C&O ordered an additional 10 36 seat coach-8 seat smokers with front vestibules, which were also delivered in June 1948 as #1600-#1609 in Lot #9621-017. In 1950, C&O sold #1500 to ACL as #270 and sold #1504, #1505, and #1510 to SAL as #6227-#6229, #1510 as #6229. Also in 1950, C&O sold all of the #16xx cars, 5 to ACL and 5 to SAL. In 1954, the 3 SAL cars were reconfigured to 50 seat coaches, and were later renumbered to SCL #5130-#5132, #6229 as #5132, and were sold in 1971 to Amtrak as #5000-#5002, #5132 as #5002. In 1974, these 3 cars were reconfigured to 60 seat coaches as #6010-#6012, #5002 as #6012. #6012 was sold in May 1986.
