In 1922 the CB&Q ordered eight Mountain-type locomotives (#'s 7000-7007) from Lima Locomotive Works for passenger service. Pleased with the locomotives, The Q went to its favorite builder/ Baldwin, for 13 more of similar design in 1925, numbers 7008-7020. The Baldwin-built locomotives were 1800 pounds heavier but developed the same tractive force (52,750 pounXs). The Lima-built locomotives were designed to burn lignite fuel, seven of the Baldwin-built were designed for lignite, and six were designed for bituminous coal. Number 7008 was built in July 1925 (c/n 58482) and was retired in July 1953. |
