This "Mountain"-type steam locomotive was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1919 . It was an ATSF class 3700 loco with tall 69" drivers, developed a boiler pressure of 200 psi, and created a respectable 54,085 lb of tractive effort . This was the answer to handle the increasingly longer passenger trains that the earlier 4-6-2 Pacifics couldn't do. After serving the ATSF for over 30 years, the class was retired between 1950-55. Date is approximate on this homemade photo. |
