Although a later ATSF GP38 would carry this number, the original belongs to this 1914 Baldwin Locomotive Works Pacific type loco. It was an ATSF class 3500 member with tall 73" drivers and developed a boiler pressure of 210 psi. It's tractive force was a respectable 30,741 lb. Although originally built as a compound design, it was simplified in 1921 by Santa Fe shops and increased to 220 psi. The entire class was retired between 1940-55. Date is approximate.
