Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 4-6-2 class S-1-A 2858, date, location, and photographer unknown, print by Don Gruber, Chuck Zeiler collection. Although the location is not marked on the print, it's a good guess that this was the suburban coach yard in Downers Grove, Illinois. The selected date is based on the CB&Q Locomotive Assignment Sheet dated February 1, 1952. Number 2858 was built by Baldwin in 1909 (c/n 33472) rebuilt by the CB&Q in 1926 to class S-1-A, sold for scrap in September 1953. The extra plumbing and device by the front cab wall was a steam turbo-generator for train lighting. |
