| Constructed by Budd in 1968 for the Pennsylvania Railroad, these cars, state of the art for their time, weren't introduced until after the Penn Central merger. These units came about at the beginning of the push for high speed passenger rail in the Northeast, the predecessors of today's modern trains run by Amtrak. The 860, a snack bar car, is the only Metroliner car that survives today with an original interior and exterior. The majority of units have been converted by Amtrak to non powered cab cars, many of which can be seen operating on Keystone Service trains not far from the Museum. |
