At the begining if the paint scheme in 09/86 the B&O, C&O, SBD and WM sub letters where in use, until 10/87, when C&O [last remain railroad of the Chessie System] merged to complete CSX [SBD previously became CSX 04/86]. Anyways on 10/87, the 8048 was painted with "CSX" as the sub lettering, instead in this case SBD. The 8048 is the only known engine to have "CSX" purposely painted as part of the paint scheme, all subsequent engines that was paint in thos scheme from 10/87 no longer included any sub lettering, unless a "CSXT" was added later. |
