BNSF 4279
Following the closing on Sunday, May 1st, 2016, of Fullerton, Californias, annual Railroad Days celebration, the four mainline display pieces were coupled together to begin - eventually - the trip back to Los Angeles. Brand-new BNSF Railway ES44C4 4279 is coupled to Santa Fe 4-8-4 3751, Amtrak "Cabbage" (an F40PH diesel converted to an unpowered cab car/baggage car) 90208 and Amtrak P42DC 42. The two Amtrak pieces are both wearing the distinctive Veterans paint scheme. Nearly two hours after closing, the hundreds of spectators got what they wanted - the 3751 belching smoke and steam as this train headed east to rejoin the mainline. It would be almost another hour and a half before the real show, however, when this train would depart westbound for L.A. with the steamer providing the power. It may have been dark, but the sound was amazing!
