Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad GP40 642 at Flippin, Arkansas on an unknown day in February 1996, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 642 was built in April 1970 (c/n 36397) as Rock Island 4711, owned by the UP. The following is a note from utahrails.net: MP 642 was leased to MP as CRI&P 4711 in February 1984; painted yellow and gray, with MP lettering in June 1985; leased to NdeM, delivered on 20 October 1989; returned to UP and stored in March 1990; sold to National Railway Equipment, 17 March 1993. There were two units behind 642, however only one was a locomotive. The middle unit was a slug, powered by the two end units. The train on the left was the short-lived tourist operation known as the White River Scenic Railway. |
