MofW Equipment. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad Maintenance-of-Way Equipment in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 15 July 1961. Shown here is a photo of Fairmont "Flame Thrower" #9845. This machine has at least two functions, depending upon the season. In the winter, it is used to melt snow and ice that might foul switches. In the summer, it is used to burn track-side weeds. This photo was taken at the intersection of Allegheny, Bedford, Blair, Broad, Newry, and Wall Streets ~ across the tracks from the Passenger Station.
