PRR Westbound Freights, 1948
Horseshoe Curve-1948. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred McLeod that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in the Summer of 1948. Shown here are two westbound Pennsylvania Railroad mixed-cargo freight trains. An L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" is helping an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" on the outer track, while another "Mikado" labors alone on the inner track. This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Pennsy Steam Locomotives" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (109-2).
