Built by Alco in January of 1959 for the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe (ex-ATSF 9844, nee-ATSF 844), it was later sold to the Lake Superior & Ishpeming RR. The low hood model like this one was affectionately dubbed "Alligator" from the obvious hood shape. Specs - powered by an ALCO 251 16-cylinder four-cycle V-type prime mover rated at 2,400 hp, had a pair of three-axle Trimount trucks powered by GE model 752 traction motors. Michael A. Tedesco slide |
