AHC. Here is the second of three successive photos that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in the Summer of 1959. Prominent here is an A-B-A trio of Pennsylvania Railroad AF-16's built by the American Locomotive Company. They are heading back to East Altoona after helping another freight train up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they uncoupled and headed back down the Alleghenies for yet another run up "The Mountain." Also visible is a westbound merchandise freight train pulled by three EMD EFS-17M's and pushed by three ALCo AS-18AM's. |
