WIL-ALT-65. Here is an original photo that I took during a trip on Pennsylvania Railroad passenger trains from Wilmington to Altoona during August of 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #5857, #5760, and another unit whose number is not recorded. All were built by EMD. #5857 is an EP-20 built in 1948 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. #5760 is an EP-22 built in 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. They are departing the Altoona Station with a 16-car passenger train and heading up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Johnstown, Pittsburgh, and points West. Partially visible (L to R) are the PRR Test Plant building and the 17th Street Bridge. |
