CB&Q #4722 SILVER STIRRUP
CB&Q 24 seat dome-46 seat leg rest chair #4722 SILVER STIRRUP, built by Budd in 1948 in Lot #9646-019 for the CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR as a CZ-22 car (the CZ-22 domes were the third of the three dome chairs per trainset). The SILVER STIRRUP was planned to be renumbered as BN #4686, but this was not applied, and it was sold to Amtrak in 1971 as #9456. It was retired in February 1984 and sold to the Alaska RR, where it was initially planned to become #7003, but instead became #7034. It was resold in October 1986 to Denver Railcar as DRCX #7034/#800334, and was used on several operations, including the Roaring Fork RR, the Texas Southern/TEXAS LIMITED, Mexican American Railways (charters based in Nogales), and the ACADIAN. It was sold at the May 2004 DRCX bankruptcy auction to the Grand Canyon Railway as GCRX #7034 GRAND VIEW. Scanned with an Epson V550 from an original Kodachrome 35mm slide. Date is approximate.
