One-year-old Amtrak SDP40F's 555 - the railroad's first TRIPLE NICKLE - and 556 were on the westbound SUNSET in New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. These were some of the units with icicle breakers to protect dome cars while on the SAN FRANCISCO ZEPHYR. The 555 would be retired three years later and traded-in on F40PHR 281. Notice the baggage wagon and the REA trailer on the left. |
