31T rolls west over the Chenango River on the DLW bridge as it clears downtown and heads for Buffalo with 71 cars. This view highlights the concrete construction the DLW was noted for. The arches on the approach are typical reinforced concrete. The adjacent Erie bridge was(and is) steel. The red brick building to the right of the train is Derby Knitting Mills, which would burn to the ground in a spectacular fire ten years hence. |
