In October 2014 Transnet Freight Rail and Transnet Engineering purchased fourteen used ex Queensland Railways 2170 Class Clyde/EMD GL26C-2 diesel-electric locomotives from Aurizon Holdings Limited, a publicly listed rail freight company in Australia. Designated Class 35-800, most were allocated to the Western Cape system and are based at Bellville Loco Depot for service on the SaldaRha and Piketberg lines, while the remaining units are believed to have been allocated to the Eastern Cape system.
