AT&SF SD45B 5502 at Corwith Yard, Chicago, Illinois on May 31, 1987, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in November 1966 as AT&SF SD45 1847 ( c/n 32523 ) on EMD Order 5722, it was renumbered to 5547, rebuilt to SD45u 5340 at San Bernardino in October 1982. It appears that it was wrecked and rebuilt to SD45B 5502 ( 3rd 5502 ), later renumbered and lettered BNSF 7503. At some point during one of the rebuildings it gave up its 20 cylinder 645 prime mover for a 16-645E3, producing 3,000 horsepower. It was retired in November 2000. |
