NST. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken just West of Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 30 August 1953. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6401, a J-1A (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during May of 1943 and retired in April of 1958 after just 15 years of revenue service. It is pulling a freight train down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve, and will soon pass under the 24th Street Bridge on its way to Altoona and points East. |
