BYC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by David R. Sweetland that was taken just East of the Brick Yard Crossing in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in October of 1962. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9454 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are FF-16's built by Fairbanks-Morse and rated at 1,600 horsepower each. #9654 was constructed in September of 1950 and retired in April of 1965 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, this A-B-A set is pulling a mixed-cargo freight train up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. |
