New Orleans Public Service trolleybus 1232 was parked on Freret Street at Broadway, at the outer end of the FRERET line, waiting for the departure time for its trip back downtown. The 1232 had been built by the St. Louis Car Co. in July 1947 and was retired only nine year later, after running just 203,706 miles. It was one of 22 trolleybuses retired on 9 July 1956 in the first retirement of post-WWII trolleybuses as transit ridership declined. (approximate date of photo) |
