The engineer of Gulf Mobile & Ohio train 2 – the northbound REBEL – can be seen in the cab of power car 353 as he awaited his 6 p.m. departure from the Southern Railway’s TERMINAL STATION in New Orleans. The photo is undated, but we know it was taken between 1940, when the GM&O was formed, and 1947, when the railroad adopted a red-and-maroon paint scheme, because the train was still wearing its original red-and-silver colors The 353 was built by American Car & Foundry in June 1935.
