PRR 4-6-2 #5348
Here is one of the earlier K-4s 4-6-2 Pacifics built by the PRR Juniata Shops in June of 1918 and one that outlasted many later K-4s Pacifics. This loco (serial #3490) put in nearly 38 years of mostly passenger service on the Pennsy before retirement and scrapping in October of 1956 near the end of steam on the PRR. J.R. Quinn photo

Tom Beckett General This is a cool set. The K4 in its varoius forms was a passenger workhorse on the PRR and affiliated lines. They worked systemwide, including in commuter service on Long Island(which was a PRR subsidiary from 1900 to 1965 when NY's MTA took over. That's why all the towers and position light signals there) and the NY & Long Branch, now NJ Transit's North Jersey Coast Line. It was on the Long Branch that the last K 4's ran in November 1957, closing out the steam era on the PRR. 6/24/2020 4:32:01 AM
