BYC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken just East of the Brick Yard Crossing in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 23 July 1955. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #2006 and two more "BF" Class units whose road numbers are not recorded. #2006 is a BF-16 constructed by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in August of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, this A-B-A trio is approaching the Brick Yard Crossing with a mixed-cargo freight train on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. |
