| Here is the second of two original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken East of the Coaling Tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1957. At the left, the end of a westbound mixed-cargo freight train passes the Westbound Receiving Yard visible above it. In the center, a departing eastbound freight train passes ANTIS Tower on its way to the Enola Yards. At the right, a string of loaded hopper cars awaits motive power to pull it to Eastern markets. And at the far right, a number of deadlined steam locomotives await their fate. |
