Louis Brzuchalski General If this is the original number, 557707, it is the eighth caboose built at the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Toledo (Ironville) Ohio shops in 1948. It is one of 61 cabooses built there in 1948-1949, of this type. The original WLE number was 0208, renumbered NKP 708 after WLE was leased by NKP in 1949, and renumberewd NW 557707 after NKP merger with N&W in 1964. I saw and rode this caboose many times before I retired from NS clerical dept., at Toledo, from the West end of Homestead Yard, to the top (East) end at the yard office with the crews and car knockers before radios were used. 1/17/2007 6:05:46 PM
