FM. Here is an image of a photo by Fred McLeod that was taken near Lewistown, Pennsylvania, on 9 July 1949. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5755 and a "B" unit whose number is not recorded. Both are AP-20's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #5755 was built in November of 1947 as an AP-20, regeared and reclassified as an AFP-20, and retired in September of 1962 after just 15 years of revenue service. This image comes from a B&W slide set entitled "Horseshoe Curve, Pennsylvania Railroad" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa. William E. Burket Collection. |
