PRR 6431, J-1A, c. 1948
AW. Here is an image of a photo by Arlington J. Wolfe that was taken at the Brickyard Crossing in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1948. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6431, a J-1A (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during September of 1943 and retired in April of 1958 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, it's rockin' 'n' rollin' with a freight train on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. William E. Burket Collection.
