Well-weathered former Missouri-Kansas-Texas GP38AC 337 was outside the Union Pacific engine house at Avondale, Louisiana. The locomotive had been built in February 1970 as Illinois Central 9513, became an ICG unit in 1972 and was leased to the MKT in 1985, after its lease to the ICG expired. It became a Union Pacific unit in 1988, when the UP acquired the Katy, was renumbered UP 1993 in January 1991 and was purchased by the UP in October 1996, upon expiration of its lease. The loco was renumbered UP 1793 in December 1997, then UP 293 in June 2001 and was retired on 27 August 2009. It became LTEX 3805 and then Columbia & Cowlitz/Patriot Rail 3805. |
