I was scrolling through Facebook the evening before and noticed that a Patriot Rail GP38-2 with ND&W markings was westbound on a freight bound for Garrett on CSX. Seeing that, I knew that the old GP20u models on the ND&W were finally being replaced, so I decided it was high-time I go back to the shortline and get another day trip out of the GP20s before they slowly begin to be phased out. I woke up early and made the trek to their home base in Defiance. To my dismay, the 2045 and the 3001 were fired up, and not the 2026, which still is in its old ATSF "bluebonnet" scheme. But, nonetheless, I came up for GP20us, no matter the paint. The ones on the ND&W are known for smoking quite badly, as you can see with the 2045 pictured here. |
