Scot, any idea what OxyChem is using now that they've forsaken this old relic?

No..no idea. I didnt see any other switchers around, but its a fairly large complex, and not all of it visable from the public roads.

Interesting! Is this engine just being scavenged for parts by the museum, or has it already been scrapped perhaps?

Tim, yep, she was/is L&N 59. However no one has seen the locomotive in a decade..I suspect she is no longer with us/ :( It never did make it to the Medina Railroad Museum.

An internet search produced the following (dated Oct. 25, 2000): RELCO SET TO DONATE ANOTHER ALCO Relco, a locomotive broker located in Minooka, Illinois, has announced that they have an Alco S1, currently numbered RE-718, available for donation. The S1 was originally purchased by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad as their number 61. The unit later worked for Occidental Chemical in Niagara Falls, New York, before the unit's generator failed, sidelining it and eventually causing its return to Minooka, Illinois. Relco has made the unit available to any non-profit organization or group that may be interested in acquiring it. If interested, please contact Relco at 800-435-6091.
