Description: |
Built by Baldwin in 1910, the class was originally nicknamed Bull Mooser for its odd 3 dome appearance and external steam piping. The Santa Fe shops eventually simplified aod superheated the class in the 1920' like #1491. They were very handy for branch-line local passenger service and lasted until the early 1950's. Original specs - class 1480, 73" drivers, 221 psi, 15x26" high pressure cylinders, 25x26" low pressure cylinders, engine weight of 231,675 lb, tractive effort of 22,038 lb. No date, location or photogKapher listed but it appears to be the Kansas City, MO, train shed. |
