Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 4-6-2 Class S-3 2974 at Denver, Colordao on July 23, 1939, photograph by Jackson Thode, Chuck Zeiler collection. This was the final Pacific type delivered by Baldwin to the CB&Q. Number 2974 was built in 1918 (c/n 49075) and sold for scrap in August 1951. Two unsubstantiated observations; it appears to be an oil burner, I don't believe it was delivered that way, and it appears to have an extended smokebox, possibly indicating that it was once a lignite coal burner. |
