Description:
Here is page 33 of a 43-page article by James J.D. Lynch, Jr., entitled "Overview Of The History And Development Of The Pennsylvania Railroad's Altoona Shops." It was published originally in the Autumn 1996 issue of "Keystone" magazine, page 50. Left Column, Second Photo Down: Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #5824 and another unit whose number is not recorded. Both units were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. #5824 was built in 1947 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are passing by the Altoona Passenger Station on their way back to East Altoona for yet another helper run up the Allegheny Mountains and back. Right Column, Second Photo Down: Shown here is PRR engine #9583-B, a BF-15 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1949 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. Photo taken by John Dziobko, Jr., on 25 July 1952.
