Here is an image of a photo by Edward Kaspriske that was taken near Camden, New Jersey, in 1955. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #784, an H-9S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built in Juniata as H-8B number "304" during May of 1911, rebuilt as an H-9S in August of 1917, renumbered as "5372" in 1918, renumbered "784" in 1921, and retired in October of 1958 after 47 years of service. Coal Power. Here is an original 35mm color slide (converted to B&W) by D.R. McCulloch that was taken in Camden, New Jersey, on 3 September 1957. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #1777, #784, #5379, #3747, and #6391. #1777 is an H-9S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an H-8B during January of 1911, rebuilt in Juniata as an H-9S in August of 1916, and retired in October of 1958. #784 is an H-9S (2-8-0) "Condoslidated" built in Juniata as an H-8B and numbered "304" during May of 1911, rebuilt in Juniata as an H-9S and renumbered "5372" in 1918, renumbered "784" in 1921, and retired in October of 1958. #5379 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during June of 1924 and retired in April of 1958. Barely visible just to the right of center is #3747, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during March of 1920 and retired in November of 1957. And #6391 is a B-6SB (0-6-0) switcher built in Juniata during December of 1926 and retired in April of 1958. |
