Black Mesa & Lake Powell RR!!!! |
Description: |
This is the only time I caught the Black Mesa & Lake Powell RR! I'm glad I saw them because the railroad shut down in 2019. This was isolated and did not connect with any other railroad. It was self powered from a coal plant near Page, AZ. This train is nearing the eastern end loading loop. The line totals 78 miles. Taken July 18, 2005. (Canon 35mm S.L.R. camera, Fuji P-800 print film) |

Black Mesa and Lake Powell RR #EA036 and Sisters |
Description: |
Empty train on loop track approaching loading tower. Some of the rear cars of the train can be seen in the distance. The mine is several miles south and the coal is sent to the loading tower by conveyor belt including this curving ramp to the top of the tower. The 78-mile Black Mesa and Lake Powell RR is isolated from other railroads in northeastern Arizona. It's sole purpose is to haul coal from Black Mesa Mine near Kayenta, AZ to the Navajo Generating Station power plant at Page, AZ (Lake Powell). It is powered by a 50,000 Volt catenary. It has one train set that is in almost constant use.
