Past the auqomatic |
Description: |
The H train rolls south over the hump from Decatur, passing the ABS signal, now lit, as it comes toward me. This spot works in your favor if chasing a heavy train south,=as most southbounds are. This one was 106 cars, and even with three ES 44's, it dragged over this short grade south of Decatur. Chasing a northbound on this line can be a chalnenge, since they are usually well powered for the tonnage of empty coal or grain cars. Loaded southbounds are much less of a challenge, as they work grades out of Sulphur Sprimgs, into Decatur, and again into Siloam. |

Downtown |
Description: |
The H train passes through downtown Gentry, giving an overview of the scene. Curran Feed is on the left, an easily recognizeable feature of downtown. They once had a siding. The station was at left, where there is also a team track, occauionally used to set out bad order cars. |

After getting the shot of the leader going past the signals, I ran to get it meeting the power on the Q train. He was a bit faster than me, and I didnt get the power passing power shot I wanted. This is still a pretty good action shot, though, of the Q train conductor giving the northbound a roll by. |

In the shade |
Description: |
After shooting the meet with the northbound oil train at Siloam, I took off, making good time through town-the biggest obstacle to chasing on this part of the Heavener Sub, getting through Siloam-and was able to beat the train to North Watts, but not far enough ahead to get the strarght on shot of him coming off the Illinois River bridge. I had to settle for this shot of him splitting the signals at CP North Watts. A decent shot in any event. The low sun of late fall means lots of shade here most of the day. |
