Shown here is PRR engine #8807, an FS-16M built by Fairbanks-Morse in 1952 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. This photo was taken near the intersection of Jones and South Juniata Streets. Note the experimental switch-position indicator at the lower left of the photograph.

Description:  17th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 April 1965. Shown here are the Locomotive Ready Tracks below the 17th Street Bridge; many makes and models are represented. Of the 35 or so locomotives visible, the following are identifiable by number. Starting from the bottom are PRR engines #8807, #8967, #8574, and #6307. #8807 is an FS-16M built by Fairbanks-Morse in 1952 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. #8967 is a BS-16M built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. #8574 is an ES-15M built by EMD in 1953 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #6307 is an AF-27 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated ate 2,700 horsepower. Visible in the distance is a portion of the 8th Street Bridge.
