New Georgia NGRX 1502 |
Description: |
The New Georgia Railroad operated from 1986 to 1993 as a scenic tourist line in southern Georgia. The cars from this line are now scattered about the country onto other scenic railroads or even museums. This one sits unused and vandalized on a siding of the Southwest Pennsylvania Railroad in Scottdale, Pa. The sad thing is that the local police station is just a few hundred feet away. The FLSX passenger car next to this one had an even worst fate, as someone set it on fire. |

Introducing.......SWP 2006 |
Description: |
Used by the Southwest Pennsylvania Railroad as NREX 8749 for a few years, they now officially have ownership. The number boards, number patch, and SWP on the side have just been added onto it. Seen at its home, the Scottdale station. This is a former Illinois Central 9314 GP9 built back in December 1957. Rebuilt to a GP11 at the IC Paducah Shops. Now the only question is where are SWP 2004 and 2005. They have skipped two numbers. |

Description: |
Southwest Pennsylvania Railroad brings out its whole fleet of EMD GP11s on this freight train going east on Track 2 Main through the Connellsville CSX yard. At the other end of the yard it would switch off onto SWP tracks, cross the Youghiogheny River and serve its customers in the southern part of the county. The weather forecast for this day couldnt have been more wrong, as they called for mostly cloudy skies with a rain shower. |

AVR 4004 (2) |
Description: |
One of three EMD GP40-3s working a short coal train on the SWP Railroad's Bullskin Branch. Every five minutes or so, it would shove back several more railcars into a siding for loading. There is not much wide open space to work with on this track because the trees are so close to the tracks. So I could only get a front shot. The day was wet and dreary here, but did get better later. Also more photos will be coming later, from when the train arrived in Everson, Pa. AVR 4004 was built as CBQ 620 in February 1968. Later became BN 3020, NREX 3020, KCS 4741, and KCS 2825. After a short stint at LLPX last year, it has come to the AVR in 2012. Most of its time has been spent so far helping out the sister railroad SWP. |

Fill it up |
Description: |
A pair of Michigan brand L320 front-end loaders filled this rather short 35 car coal train at the Bullskin Coal loadout on a SWP Railroad spur in Connellsville Township, Pa. These old tracks date back to the days of PRR, PC, and Conrail and are not in the greatest of shape anymore. They only see low-speed coal trains. Both tracks come to a dead end in Connellsville now. At one time it went right through downtown Connellsville and beyond. The line was cut off back when I was still I kid. |

SWP 2001, 2006, and 2003 |
Description: |
Three of the four total GP11's owned by the Southwest Pennsylvania Railroad are working the east end of the CSX yard on an already hot and sticky morning. These guys work fast and get it done. Usually they are in and out in less than half an hour. |

SWP 2006 (3) |
Description: |
Overhead look at the only SWP GP11 that isn't red. Built as IC 9314 GP9 in December 1957. Later became IC 8749 after undergoing a rebuild to a GP11 at the Paducah Shops. Eventually it moved on, becoming SLR 8749 and NREX 8749. Late last year it finally was officially renumbered 2006 for the SWP. It can be hard to photograph this one in full sunlight due to the bright yellow but I think I pulled it off this time. |
