Spruce Creek. Here is the second of eight successive photos that I took in Spruce Creek, Pennsylvania, on 10 July 1965. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2429, #2544, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. #2429 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2544 is a GF-25 built by General Electric in February of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. In this context, they're passing over the State Route 45 tunnel with a fully-loaded iron ore train out of Enola that's heading to the steel mills of Pittsburgh. |

Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5893, #5852-B, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #5893 is an EP-22 constructed in April of 1953 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #5852-B is an EP-20 built in September of 1947, rated at 2,000 horsepower, and retired in September of 1967. In this context, they're pulling a mail & express train out of Altoona to Harrisburg and points East. Wave to the Engineman! |

Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2539, #2517, #2234, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. #2539 and #2517 are GF-25's built by General Electric and rated at 2,500 horsepower each; the former was built in February of 1965, the latter in October of 1962. #2234 is an EF-22 built by GM-EMD in April of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. In this context, they're rockin' 'n' rollin' with an eastbound TrucTrain heading for the Enola Yards. Wave to the Fireman! |

In this context, they're pulling a mixed-cargo freight train out of Enola to Altoona and points West. Note that my pet dog "Millie" is safely ensconced in the weeds at the far left. |
