Title:  ATSF 2908
Description:  NORMAN OK June 4 1978 -- For several years Santa Fe ran a Norman turn from Nowers in Oklahoma City. It spent the night parked between Grey Street and Main Street in downtown Norman and provided a great opportunity to shoot older power. Here, GP9 2908 was on the head end of the day's trip to Norman. It will be the trailing unit on the return trip to Nowers. Weekends could be troublesome for the crew if they arrived late. Many times the local watering holes had overflow parking and cars would park dangerously close to the tracks or even too close to the parked locomotives. EMD built the unit as ATSF 708 in May 1956 and it was in zebra stripe paint. It was renumbered ATSF 2908 in the 1969-70 renumbering. It became ATSF GP9u 2285 when it was rebuilt at the Cleburne TX shops in September 1979. (Roster information from atsfrr.net)
