NORMAN OK May 1978 -- Santa Fe FP45 5947 and GP38 3550 roll toward the Lindsay Street crossing from the south with an empty grain train in tow. Very close to this location railroad surveyor Abner Norman made camp and the town is named for him. EMD Built the 5947 as passenger unit 107 in December 1967. It was renumbered 5947 in the general 1969-70 renumbering. In September 1982 it was renumbered 5997. It was rebuilt to an SDFP45 in December 1982. In 1985-1986 it wore SPSF paint but regained Santa Fe paint before Oct. 1 1990. It also wore silver with red warbonnet paint and was renumbered to 5997 and then to 97. It was retired after May 6 1999 and donated to the Age of Steam Railroad Museum in December 1999. (Photo date approximate, roster information from atsfrr.net) |
