UP E9 914 |
Description: |
Union Pacific Railroad E9 914 at Denver Union Station in Denver, Colorado on August 26, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Unfortunately, I did not record this train's number, so my best guess (consulting the June 1965 Official Guide) is that this was unnamed Train 6-8, originating in Los Angeles and continuing on to Chicago. I have several photos of this same train, one shows the locomotives being fueled at the station platform, so it was a through train. The lighting suggests that this was a morning departure from Denver, and Train 6-8 departed Denver at 10:15 AM. |

UP E9 914 |
Description: |
UP E9 914 at Denver Union Station on August 26, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Possibly the last E9A unit built, this locomotive was completed by EMD in January 1964 (c/n 28669) on EMD Order 7689. It was retired by the UP in May 1971 and sold to Amtrak, becoming AMTK 419. It was retired by Amtrak in 1980, sold to Precision National Corporation in June 1981 and scrapped. The job of the gentleman pictured on this day was to drive a truck of diesel fuel onto the passenger platform at Denver Union Station and refuel these locomotives. The front of this locomotive sure has been pelted. |
