LNAC 4-4-0 #9 - Louisville, New Albany & Corydon |
Description: |
Rare photo of Louisville, New Albany and Corydon's 4-4-0 pulling a combination passenger/baggage car. The little loco survived on the very short Hoosier line until it was replace by the GE 45ton, "Betty Sue" in 1951. The little steamer was sold like its previous sister #5 to the Ferdinand RR where it worked until being replaced by another GE 45 ton #101 in February, 1953. It was eventually scrapped. If anyone knows the original builder of this loco, I would appreciate hearing from you. |

LNAC 4-4-0 #9 - Louisville, New Albany & Corydon |
Description: |
Another piece of the puzzle on this little loco just fell into place. The 4-4-0 American-type loco was built by Porter Locomotive Works in May of 1920, builder #6493. Eventually the little loco was sold to another southern Indiana railroad, the Ferdinand RR, in 1951 and then scrapped two years later in 1953. Beautiful original photo taken by E.G. Baker was heavily sepia colored before scanning and cleaning up. |
