Description:  Here is another example of a Chicago Great Western shops rebuild. This started as a 2-6-2 but converted in 1926. Specs - 69" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure and an unimpressive 27,904 lb tractive effort. Scrapped in September of 1950. No date, location or photographer listed for this older photo copy but the coaling tower in the background appears to be from Olewein, IA.

No date, location or photographer listed for this older photo copy but the coaling tower in the background looks like the one at the Olewein, IA, yards.

Description:  Here is another Chicago Great Western shops rebuild from a 2-6-2 Prairie style locomotive into the 4-6-2 Pacific configuration. Built by Alco-Rhode Island as a 2-6-2 in September 1902 as #250 class F3, it had 21X28 cylinders and 63" drivers, boiler pressure 200 lb., 33,320 lb. tractive effort. It was rebuilt by the CGW in 1910 to #652 class H2, a 2-6-6-2 with 21&35X28 cylinders, boiler pressure 200 lb., 52,265 lb. tractive effort. It was rebuilt again in August 1915 to #952 class K6s, a 4-6-2, 200 lb. boiler pressure, 21½X28 cylinders, and a modest 34,925 lb. tractive effort, rebuilt one final time in December 1920 to class K6a, 23X28 cylinders, boiler pressure 180 lb., 35,972 lb. tractive effort. The drivers remained 63" diameter throughout the rebuilding. The entire K6s/K6a class was scrapped in 1932. No date, location or photographer listed for this older photo copy.
