Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad GP7 267 on the East End Way Freight at Naperville, Illinois on April 13, 1966, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built December 1953 (c/n 18983) it was the last GP7 delivered to the CB&Q. It is equipped with a steam generator. It became BN 1623, and was retired September 1983. All of CB&Q's GP7's and GP's were delivered in this black paint scheme, termed "Blackbirds" by CB&Q employees. In 1959, the red "Redbirds" paint scheme was introduced on C&S SD9 #828, returned to EMD for wreck repairs, and repainted in red. The first new power to wear the red scheme were the SD24's, delivered in 1959. |
