Yard Power. Here is the second of two successive original photos that I took in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 2 August 1960. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9329 and #9330. Both are GS-4M switchers built by General Electric in June of 1948, rated at 380 horsepower each, and retired in February of 1966 after just 18 years of revenue service. Here, the crew is "flat switching" a string of gondolas. Partially visible in the left background is a not-so-bald "Bald Hill." |
