Built in 1930 by Pullman in Lot #6358 to Plan #3973A as 10S-1DR-1C sleeper BALSAM FIR, 1 of 13 such sleepers built in that Lot. 4 of the 13 cars, including the BALSAM FIR, were built for assignment to the COLUMBINE, and all 4 were acquired by UP at the 12/31/1948 Pullman divestiture. In 1962, the BALSAM FIR was withdrawn from Pullman lease, and in 1963 was rebuilt to dynamometer #903001. In 1964, the #903001 was modified to mobile laboratory #210. The #210 was later stored at Council Bluffs and then at Cheyenne before being upgraded and placed back into service; the car was outshopped in April 2013 and repainted in May; it was also assigned an Amtrak #800xxx-series number, specifically #800847. Photographed while waiting to board the WB #5 CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR; the #210 was uncoupled and left at the platform before departure.
