Amtrak train No. 1 – westbound SUNSET – was awaiting its 1:00 PM departure time from New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. Today’s train had four Southern Pacific locomotives: FP7’s 6451 and 6454, F7B 8290 and GP9 3007, with 12 cars. On the left, parked at the REA Express building, were former Illinois Central CITY of NEW ORLEANS observation car 3305 and CITY OF MIAMI car 3300. The cars were privately owned and remained here until 4 January 1972. |
